Outside the Box – Deborah Durbin
During November, Ms. Durbin and Mr. Sheng collaborated to teach the L50, L60, and L70 math students how to apply geometry in quilt design. During one math class, the students designed a 16 X 16 inch patchwork square to submit to the School Block Challenge sponsored by Moda Fabrics and the National Quilt Museum. Some students designed their patches using tangrams, a Chinese math game. The students sewed their patches during special Visual Art classes held after school. Special recognition to Katherine Kozan for representing the school and submitting her “Candlestick” patch to the contest.
