How many of our children will be studying a language this year? It’s no secret that language education in the United States lags behind peer countries for both K-12 and higher education, but the actual numbers are astounding. According to a 2017 report by the American Councils for International Education, slightly less than 20 percent of U.S. students in grades K-12 were learning a language other than English. For the European Union, the median is 92 percent of students. (more)
