Outside the Box – Christy Johnson
Science is all around us. Children are curious, and hands-on science experiments are an exciting way to teach children about themselves and the world around them. The L80 science class was given the opportunity to work with the L30 students. They explored light refraction with prisms, created mini volcanos while learning about the properties of acids and bases and also studied electricity and light. Some of the descriptive words/phrases the children used were, “awesome, …wish I could look and see life through a prism all day long, what makes the light get brighter and brighter?”. The L80 girls had fun creating the volcanic landscape and activation. Each student was asked to write down their observations and the middle school students made sure that they were writing valid observations and discussing each experiment scientifically. Learning from their peers was a fun and exciting time for the L30 students!
